New ANSI/AAMI Hemodialysis Standards

New special considerations for acute hemodialysis have been issued.  The ANSI/AAMI RD52:2004 Dialysate for hemodialyzers has an amendment 3 - Annex E.

E.2 Fluid Quality: suggests achieving higher fluid quality by passing final dialysate through a bacteria-and endotoxin-retentive filter.

E.3.7 Endotoxin-retentive filters: recommends in-line dialysate filters as a final barrier against contamination of the dialysate.

E.4 Microbial control strategies: “Consideration should be given to installing an in-line dialysate filter in the dialysis machine, if the machine manufacturer allows that option.”

The Nephros DSU is the ideal filter to achieve the above suggestions and recommendations.  Pictures and specifications are available on our website.

Hospital NICU deaths

June 11, 2009 - The Miami Herald published an article on the deaths of two infants at a Miami area hospital where Pseudomonas was found throughout the unit.  After the hospital purged the units water supply, it still found traces in 25% of areas sampled.  The hospital then tore out 3 sinks, faucets and drains in one area.  After new plumbing and superchlorination, the area got a clean bill of health.

Nephros Dual Stage Ultrafilters can provide biologically pure water at the source.  The DSU could be a less expensive fix and a proactive approach.  For more information on how the DSU works, click here.

Up-date to this post 7/17/09 - My first blog on this article resulted in a request from said hospital to remove any reference to their name (trademark infringement).    I have complied with their attorneys’ request by changing my blog, but have kept a link to the article for those of you who are interested.  The aforesaid hospital does not use our product and we never intended to imply such.
