Safe Hydrotherapy for Burn Patients

Burn patients are highly susceptible to infections from contaminated hydrotherapy equipment.  Over 60% of gram negative bacteria outbreaks in burn units have been associated with hydrotherapy equipment.  Gram negative bacteremia is associated with over 50% increased risk of mortality in burn patients.

The Nephros DSU is a point-of-use filter that eliminates waterborne pathogens.  The filter can be installed on shower systems, tubs and sinks.  If your unit has specialty showers, we can provide the fittings to adapt them for use with the DSU.

Filter specifications show the DSU will filter your water to .005  microns, which ensures your patients are receiving bacteria-free water.  The DSU should last approximately 90 days, as opposed to other filters (which are .02 microns) that last 1-2 weeks.

Visit our booth (#415) at the American Burn Association meeting next week (March 29 – April 1) in Chicago.

Biological Water Filters creates biologically engineered water filters that are required for immuno-compromised patients in hospitals and health-conscious consumers in homes.  To learn more, contact us today at 407-444-1066.

American Burn Association

Please visit us at booth #415 at The American Burn Association meeting in Chicago, March 29 – April 1, 2011.

Burn patients can unknowingly be exposed to waterborne pathogens during their treatment procedures.  The Nephros DSU can filter your water and reduce the chance of infections in these immune-compromised patients.  Studies show how the DSU can reduce your infection rates.

Hospital Infection – Shower/Burn Units

The most serious and most common cause of infections in burn patients is from a waterborne pathogen, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa.  All hospital patients can be exposed to infections from hospital water due to biofilm in the water system.   Centralized disinfection is unable to remove this biofilm. A study was conducted at two large US hospitals to determine the effectiveness of point-of-use ultrafiltration for infection control.  After the Nephros DSU was installed, waterborne bacteria was eliminated. We will be exhibiting the DSU at the American Burn Association Meeting in Chicago on March 29 – April 1, 2011.
