Hydrotherapy For Burns
Hydrotherapy, the external use of water, has been used to treat burns for many thousands of years. Whether it’s holding a finger under the cold water faucet after touching a hot pan or immersion in a hydrotank for a victim of severe third-degree burns, hydrotherapy remains a frontline defense against burn damage.

North American survey of hydrotherapy in modern burn care.
To investigate the role of hydrotherapy in the treatment of patients with burns, a survey was conducted of the use of hydrotherapy in Canada and the United States as part of an intensive investigation into the causes of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections in burn injury.

Burn Unit - Shower Study
Hydrotherapy equipment (showers and tanks), though useful for burn healing, have become less popular due to the infection risk from the water. Tap water used to feed this equipment is often colonized with pseudomonas due to biofilm in the pipes. Centralized disinfection is unable to remove this biofilm.
